Current Events Practic

  1. What's being discussed in this article?
The one-child policy that is implemented in China at this time. This policy allows each family to have only one child. If the family has more than one child they may endure large fines and possible loss of property. In addition, throughout the pregnancy they will be encouraged to have an abortion. The act has been in place for 30 years and was said to becoming to an end by 2015, however, many believe that this policy may continue throughout the years.

  2. When did the event happen? (Is this breaking news or something that's been analyzed and discussed for a while?)
This is an event that has been discussed for a long time. However, the news of this family struggles is new to this topic, thus making it a breaking news story. In addition, this topic is a currant debate topic.

  3. What questions do you have that would help make this article make more sense to you? What more do you need to learn about to be able to report on this event?
There are no questions that I have about this article. And in order to know more about this topic I would need to know if there were any other reasons that this law was implemented other than to decrease the population.

HMWK 1

September 11, 2001: I remember watching the BMW Championship at Bellerive, and my dad telling me that my mother would not be flying that day because a plan had crashed.  At the time I did not know the significance.

Hurricane Katrina: I remember hearing about the possible hurricane on the news and then seeing pictures of the damage that it cause on the internet.  I thought that it would take a while to recover from this event.

Gulf Coast Oil Spill: I remember looking on the internet and seeing that there was a recent enviormental problem in the Gulf Coast.  I thought to my self that this could not be happening again.

Parents:
JFK assassination: My mother was four years old and she remembers coming home and seeing her mother crying.  Then the next day not having any school.

Berlin wall being taken down: My mother remembers watching this event on TV in her home in California and thinking that people were getting to see and talk to people that they never were able to see and talk before.

Challenger explosion: My mother remembers working her first corporate job on a college campus in New Hampshire and how after the accident the entire campus went quiet.
