1. Low Education for children living in the city. This is interesting to me because these low education rate not only will affect these children for the rest of their live but will also affect the community they live in. These children will be unable to possible attend universities and therefore will not have the chance to leave the city that they grew up in. An organization that helps with this issue, is a group created by Mrs. Ellebrect that helps inner city kids by giving them a tutor that will help them learn things from school as well as how to become a better person.
2. High Rates of Homelessness. This is interesting to me because every time I go downtown I see numerous homeless people and I am always interested in how they became homeless and how they might get out of homelessness. I have come to understand that many of these homeless people are homeless because of drug or education issues and I would be interesting in figuring out away to help rid them of their dependence on drugs as well as help them will their education. An organization that helps with this issue is the St. Patrick center. They provide homeless people will food and gifts around the holidays. This organization would provide facts about the homeless population as well as possible stories that they have heard for why people have become homeless.
3. Poor Transportation to,from and around the city. This is interesting to me because I have always been forced to drive downtown and find a parking spot that is not always in the best part of town. If our system of public transportation was better it would be easier for people from the suburbs to get to the city as well as for people who do not have any form of personal transportation to get from place to place. An organization that helps with this issue is Citizens for Modern Transit. This organizations goals is to help create affordable transportation for the St. Louis area. This organizations is trying to help create a rail system in St. Louis that will allow for more people to use this form of public transportation.
